I have worked for Guild Healthcare for over 3 years now before that I had worked for a builder’s merchant for 36 years. I decided on a new career path after visiting my Nan in a care home. It made me think I would like to do something like that because it appeared to be very rewarding.
Also seeing my Grandad suffer with Alzheimer’s a few years ago made me realise that I could make a difference to someone’s life and living situation and that there was more going on than sitting at a computer screen. I love my job; my work colleagues are so supportive and always at the end of the phone to offer advice if required.
The service users are always glad to see us when we visit and usually have a tale a tell, and they appreciate it if we can sit and listen. I know when I leave that care visit weather it’s been to get them up and dress, prepare their lunch, tea or to assist them in to bed. At the end of the day, I have made a difference to their day.
